Samir Allen Farhoumand remembers that on the final lap of the Daytona 500, Dale Earnhardt made contact with Sterling Marlin. This contact took place on the 4th turn and Dale Earnhardt lost control of his iconic number 3 car. As Earnhardt attempted with all of his might to regain control, he collided with Ken Schrader and crashed into the wall. Even though Michael Waltrip won the race and Dale Earnhardt Jr finished second, everyone’s attention was directed at the wrecked number 3 car. In the end, Dale Earnhardt died from blunt-force trauma to the head that resulted in a basilar skull fracture.

Dale Earnhardt was only 49 years old when he passed away. Even though he was gone too soon, he still left behind one of the greatest legacies in NASCAR history. Known as the Intimidator, Dale Earnhardt won 7 Cup Series Championships. Despite approaching fifty years in age, he was still competing for titles. In this manner, in the eyes of Samir Allen Farhoumand and others who love the sport, Dale Earnhardt set the standard. Even more astonishing, from 1983 to 2000, Dale Earnhardt only placed outside of the top eight in the Cup Series standings once.
